Both are similar in that they are form fitting, usually sleeveless, have removable garters, and can be worn both in the bedroom or for a night out on the town. So what’s the difference? Some corsets are made more for style or show in that they have light-bonding. These corsets often are made of satin, silk or a lace material, not leaving much room for stretching. And may have plastic or nylon boning (reinforcements to the vertical seams). Just be sure to read the description when purchasing, so you can choose the correct size. Corsets should always be laced from the bottom to the top, allowing for you to tighten the laces gradually. When removing the corset, remember to loosen the laces before taking off to prevent tears, rips or straining the fabric.
A bustier is defined as a woman’s close-fitting, sleeveless, strapless top, often elasticized, usually having boning or facing to give it shape. Bustiers are generally very form fitting and can be worn as both lingerie or evening wear. Most bustiers are sleeveless but some may have a shoulder strap and are either secured by a button or hook and eye closure. Bustiers are not made to hold you in or reduce your waist size. Some may have light-bonding, as mentioned before, that will help give you the added shape you are wanting. Because of their ability to stretch, bustiers are often favored since you can easily put them on and go. They are usually made of nicer fabrics such as satin, silk and lace.
